Welcome to the Tower!

Columnua's Elemental Shot, created by Laura Doherty

Schools: Invocation/Evocation
Level: Wiz/Sor 5
Range: 20 Feet
Components: Verbal, somantic and material (1 glass shard)
Duration: Instant
Casting time: 4
Area of effect: Line of sight
Saving throw: Fortiude 1/2 damage

When cast, Columnua's Elemental Shot draws a bolt of energy from a random plane which shoots forth to do 1D6 + caster's level in damage to the target. This is a wonderful little spell for those days when you feel like not only surprising your enemy, but yourself as well! In fact, it can be quite spectacular should you happen to draw from the Plane of Fire or Acid (which is spectacular, but messy).

In order to determine how many shots you get out of one casting, roll 1D4. This tells you how many times you get to try and fry your opponent. Now, to figure out which Plane you are drawing engery from, roll 1D3 and refer to the list below:

Type of attacks:

  • Element 1:ice, 2:fire, 3:earth, 4:air
  • Holy 1:holy, 2:water, 3:heal, 4:air
  • Shadow 1:acid, 2:fire, 3:earth, 4:unholy

Besides the standard damage stated above, the bolts also do a little something extra, depending on which Plane you pull it from:

  • Fire: Combustibles burst into flame, 2X damage to creatures susceptible to fire attacks.
  • Water: Puts out small fires, 2X damage to creatures susceptible to water attacks.
  • Ice: Victim freezes, 2X damage to creatures susceptible to ice attacks.
  • Earth: Causes 5% chance of instant death (no save), 2X damage to creatures susceptible to earth attacks.
  • Air: Knocks the victim down, 2X damage to creatures susceptible to air attacks.
  • Acid: Makes things melt, 2X damage to creatures susceptible to acid attacks.
  • Holy: Heals creatures from the Upper Planes, 2X damage to creatures from the Lower Planes.
  • Unholy: Heals creatures from the Lower Planes, 2X damage to creatures from the Upper Planes.

My thanks to Laura Doherty for submitting this spell. I find myself looking forward to the first time I get to try this one out in play. In fact, I have a friend who specializes in Wild Magic. I think I'll be passing this little gem along to him as well . .*grin*
