Shouldn't they have you locked in a room somewhere where you can't hurt yourself?"The Story One of the player characters in the group, quite literally, wakes up undead one morning. Now, he/she will not be able to immediately tell that this is the case, nor will most of the people around him. He will not experience decay, he has a heartbeat, he eats and sleeps just as normal. The big things that will give away his new state of being are the fact that clerics will be able to turn him and Heal spells will harm him. What has happened is that a local necromancer has developed a new spell, Death to Life. What this spell does is allow the caster to bring an undead creature back to life. However, because of the Cosmic Balance, there must be a switch. Another living person's link to the Positive Energy Plane is switched with the Negative Energy Plane link of the undead. Therefore, the undead suddenly seems to live and the living suddenly seems to die. Clerics will become uneasy about the character and will quickly come to understand that he is undead. However, if they are good clerics, they will most likely also realize that the character does not know he is dead, assuming him to be one of those confused souls who needs guidance to the Other Side. They will begin going through ceremonies to try and convince the character to let go of this world and go on to that better place beyond this mortal coil. Keep in mind that any Heal spell cast on the character will actually harm him, and Harm spells will heal him. If the character is evil, good clerics will be able to turn him. If he is good, then a good cleric attempting to turn him will just make him queasy. |
