You know, I'm not even going to try to beat around the bush with this one. It's just bizarre enough on it's own that I don't think it needs any sprucing up. When cast, Death Tongue causes the caster's own tongue to change. It becomes long and whip-like, with a smooth stinger at the end. The caster can strike an opponent with their tongue, much like a frog or chameleon, to administer a deadly venom through the stinger. The venom itself is deadly within a matter of minutes. Roll 1D10 to see how long the venom lasts. Each minute, the venom does 10 points of damage. The victim may save vs. poison to take half damage. The venom can be negated through the Neutralize Poison spell or a bit of apple and does not linger within the body, but dissipates after about 10 minutes. So if the victim is lucky, he can simply wait it out.

Death Tongue was developed by a sect of mage/assassins. Unfortunately, the tongue does have one drawback: as long as you are affected by it, you cannot talk. Well, actually, you can talk but it's very garbled. This accounts for the short duration - you want to be able to hit the target and still be able to tell a plausible story to the authorities, should it require that you remain at the scene. The caster is immune to his own poison as long as the spell is in effect. Also, they engineered the spell to have a simple cure should one of their own be struck with the spell: apples. Of course, this becomes a moot point should you use the spell when apples are out of season . . . .

I must take a bow to Berkley Breathhead, Bill the Cat and Opus (from whom I stole the name Death Tongue - thanks guys!) and the creators of "Farscape" from whom I stole this idea. One of the characters, Dargoh, has this as a natural ability. I just thought it was a fun idea. If you want to try to catch Farscape, it comes on the Sci-Fi channel at 9:00 PM EST on Friday nights.
