The Suffering Way

Created by Haruchai

The Suffering Way fighting style is usually employed by those who follow the teachings of Ilmater, though this is not necessarily always the case. Only those of the greatest physical constitution can hope to utilize this style to its utmost, but those who do manage are terrors upon the battlefield.

Perseverence is the cornerstone of this style, the basic premise to be the last man standing while trading blows to to toe with one's enemies. By giving up their own mobility the practitioner of this style takes advantage of the opportunities given to him as his foe strikes him, thus striking in return. The Way of Suffering has no particular weapon which its practitioners favor. With enough fortitude and will, this physical discipline is one that anyone can accomplish.

Class features:

'Til the End: 'Til the End: The Sufferer has honed their stamina to go the distance regardless of fatigue. A Sufferer gains the Endurance feat.

Grin and Bear It, I and II: A Sufferer learns to roll with blows and strikes to minimize the damge that she takes. At 1st level the Sufferer gains Damage Reduction of 2/-. This Damage Reduction stacks with that gained from the Barbarian class and other Prestige Classes. At 4th level this DR rises to 4/-.

Still Standing: At 3rd level the Sufferer has developed the ability to shrug off wounds and continue fighting. She gains the Remain Conscious feat. (Sword and Fist pg. 9)

Eye for and Eye, I and II: This ability is what has given the Sufferers such a reputation upon the battlefield. The Sufferer has developed an uncanny ability to take blows upon herself... to deal out damage of her own. When an opponent makes a successful melee atack upon the Sufferer, the Sufferer may take an immediate free attack of opportunity upon that opponent. The Sufferer may only make one such attack of opportunity versus a single opponent each round. The Sufferer cannot take more than one attack of opportunity versus the same opponent in the same round by any means. However, this single attack of opportunity does not count against the Sufferer's normal limit of attacks of opportunity in a round.

At 5th level this ability expands. The Sufferer may take up to one attack of opportunity against each and every melee opponent who is successful in striking her that round. The Sufferer still cannot take more than one attack of opportunity versus a single opponent in a round. This attack of opportunity does not count against the Sufferer's normal limit of attacks of opportunity in a round.
