SurveyDivination (Travel)Level: Clr 2, Rgr 2 Range: 1 mile per level Components: V, S Duration: 5 minutes Casting time: 1 action Area of effect: Caster Saving throw: None Spell Resistance: No This spell allows the caster to survey a stretch of road quickly, looking for such things as fallen trees, flooding, landslides or any other obstacles which may impede travel. For the duration of the spell, the caster's mind is sped along the road, allowing him to see what lies ahead. Now, should he spot people, he will not be able to identify them simply because he will be moving far too quickly. However, he can garner generalities such as "I saw a group of short people." Now, whether those were dwarves, gnomes, halflings, kobolds or what will be difficult to tell. And, certainly, he will not be able to say, "I saw Bob" unless Bob has some very distinctive clothing. Also, the spell will not let the caster see anything happening off of the road. So, if there are bandits lying in ambush in the woods nearby, the caster will not know. Survey is generally used by clerics dedicated to gods of travel, commerce and war. It is quite useful for picking out the quickest and safest route to a destination. Also, should a country find themselves besieged, it can be used to help track enemy movements along the roadways. |
